Some concerts entertain you. Others leave a lasting impact.
That’s exactly what I expect from the Motor City All White Gospel Fest when it comes to the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 9.
I had the chance to catch up with Mali Music, who will be one of the featured artists, and what he shared reminded me that this event is about much more than great music. When the invitation came, it wasn’t simply another concert date on his calendar.
Instead, he was moved by organizer Lady Joy’s vision for Detroit. As he read through her plans, he saw a genuine desire to bring healing, hope, and the presence of God to the city. “She has a heart for the city,” Mali told me. “Not only for the city, but for the spirit of the city.”
The Vision Inspired Him Immediately
It also sparked conversations with fellow gospel artists who wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves. Before long, friends like Jonathan McReynolds, Donald Lawrence, and Le’Andria Johnson joined the lineup, helping create what promises to be one of the biggest gospel events of the summer.
Of course, the music will be unforgettable.
When I asked Mali which song listeners should revisit before the concert, he quickly pointed me to “I Believe” from The Second Coming. Hearing him talk about writing that song as a teenager—and knowing it still ministers to people years later—made the moment even more special.
For me, that song carries its own memories. I shared how it became part of the soundtrack during a difficult season in my life, reminding me how music has a way of meeting us exactly where we are.
That’s the kind of atmosphere I believe we’ll experience on August 9.
Detroit Gets Ready for an Unforgettable Night of Worship
The evening will feature an incredible lineup including Donald Lawrence, Kurt Carr, Jonathan McReynolds, Mali Music, Le’Andria Johnson, Semaje, Dr. Toni Booker, Denise Tichenor, and the best of the Shekinah Glory lead singers.
Everyone is encouraged to wear white as thousands gather along the Detroit River for an evening of worship, fellowship, and powerful music.
