The Detroit Public Theatre is celebrating its 10th Anniversary Season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Fat Ham.” The production opened on October 11 and runs through Sunday, November 3, 2024. The Detroit Public Theatre is in its third season in its new midtown location.
Fat Ham is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, actor, and professor, James Ijames. Playmakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill, NC says that while Hamlet is a tragedy, Fat Ham is a comedy, but both explore themes of revenge, identity, and family.
The cast of Fat Ham includes X’ydee Alexander, CharlesCurtis, Erik Hernandez, Roosevelt Johnson, Janai Lashon, Niki Rochelle and Duane Shabazz.
