Detroit, get ready to have church! Ricky Dillard is coming to town, and I’m already excited. When the organizers of DTE Energy’s Hallelujah for Heat mentioned Ricky as the featured guest, my answer was simple: We have to make this happen!
I recently caught up with the legendary choir director and gospel recording artist, and we talked about what’s coming to Detroit, new music and the power of using your gifts to encourage others.
Getting Ready for Hallelujah for Heat
Ricky promises a powerful time of worship, praise and encouragement when he takes the stage on Saturday, October 24.
“This is going to be so hot out there,” he told me with a laugh. And he wasn’t talking about the weather! Ricky says he’s coming to uplift, inspire and remind people to keep holding on, no matter what’s happening around them.
He also wants Detroiters to know they are loved and not forgotten.
The event supports THAW, The Heat and Warmth Fund, which has helped Michigan families stay safe and warm since 1985. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an uplifting musical experience while supporting a cause that makes a real difference for families.
And a little friendly advice from the emcee? Wear comfortable shoes. When Ricky Dillard and that choir get going, you might need them!
Ricky Dillard Blends Gospel and Jazz
Ricky also has new music to share. In February, he released Sweet, Sweet Spirit, a collaboration with legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter.
The project reimagines beloved hymns, bringing the sounds of jazz and gospel together in a fresh way. The recording also honors Carter’s late mother, who was from Detroit, and celebrates her love for these songs.
Ricky says music has the power to inspire people wherever they are in life. And I couldn’t agree more. Whether it’s gospel, jazz, hip-hop or another genre, a song can reach your heart in a way nothing else can.
Hallelujah for Heat takes place Saturday, October 24 at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit. General admission is free, but you must reserve a ticket through Eventbrite. The event also features Detroit gospel favorite Lisa Page Brooks.
I can’t wait to see Ricky, give him a big hug and enjoy this special night with everybody. Listen to our conversation below, and get ready to lift your voice at Hallelujah for Heat!
