On The 1st Day of Black History Month School Vendor Changes Menu To Chicken, Waffles & Watermelon

On the first day of Black History Month, the planned hot lunch menu was changed by the food vendor, without notice. Instead of the Philly cheese steak, broccoli and fresh fruit that was originally on the menu, the students at a New York middle school were offered chicken and waffles, with watermelon as the dessert. Nyack Middle School’s principal said that “We are extremely disappointed by this regrettable situation and apologize to the entire Nyack community for the cultural insensitivity displayed by our food service provider.”

The vendor mentioned issued an apology, conceding the timing of the menu change “should have been more thoughtful in its service” and that “This was a mistake and does not represent the values of our company, and we are committed to doing better in the future.”

I am shaking my head in constant disbelief.
