Facts About Kamala Harris As She Tells Joe Biden, “I’m Ready To Get To Work”

As soon as Harris was officially named as Joe Biden’s running mate, a post started circulating she was not a natural-born U.S. citizen because her parents were not citizens at the time of her birth. (Source: FactCheck.org)

Civics 101: “To serve as president, one must be at least 35 years old, have been a resident of the United States for at least 14 years, and be a ‘natural born Citizen’ (Article II, sec. 1 of the Constitution).  Additionally, one cannot have already been president for more than a term and a half (22nd Amendment).”

Harris was born in Oakland, California in 1964, which under the U.S. Constitution makes her a natural-born citizen with no eligibility issues period.

More Facts: Harris’ parents divorced when she was very young and her mother raised her and her sister as a single parent  instilling the importance of education and civil rights. Maya and Kamala’s mother died of colon cancer in 2009.
