Today In Black History: Happy Birthday Leontyne Price!

Mary Leontyne Price was born on Febuary 10, 1927 in Laurel, Mississippi. Price was the first African American singer to achieve an international reputation in opera.

She rose to international fame in the 1950s and 60s, and became the first black “superstar” at the once-segregated Metropolitan Opera. Today she is 93 years young. (Sources:  BlackHistoryDaily.com and Britannica.com)
