I had to work one Thanksgiving when MIX 92.3 was downtown in the Penobscot Building. I’ve worked many holidays either having to leave early to get to the microphone, or everyone scurrying around trying to get things done so I could eat.

Anyway, everyone knows that parking is nearly impossible because of the parade & other festivities on Thanksgiving… like the Turkey Trot. A 5k run through the streets of Detroit.

That particular year they rerouted the run and as I was hiking that long walk from a parking space many city blocks from the station, I see thousands of runners headed toward me!

My brain was screaming, “Think fast, think fast!” I ran to a light pole surmising the runners wouldn’t run me over because running into a pole would just be ridiculous.

I was right and stayed there until the coast was clear all the while looking like the sista-girl version of Seinfeld.

Hats off to all those having to work during the holiday. I know you gotta do whatcha gotta do.

There’ll be a plate waiting for you when you get home or at the very least, you can come home with one amazing dinner time story!
