Impressed By Tyler Perry’s ‘Temptation’

I had the awesome opportunity to go to the Atlanta premiere of Tyler Perry’s new movie Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor  this weekend. As I stated over the weekend, to say that I’m blessed is an understatement. I spent Saturday with pastors, gospel singers,  faith-based organizations and media, as well as actors all supporting the work of Tyler Perry.

The premiere was a star studded event including cast members, to the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and followed by a private reception at Tyler Perry’s beautiful home. There was so much to soak in that I’m still in overload mode. It was simply spectacular! Tyler Perry was extremely gracious, warm and kind; greeting each guest as we walked through his doors. I feel a bit like Cinderella today, but will cherish that day the rest of my life.

The Movie:

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor is a provocative movie about what could happen if you give into the notion of “the grass is greener,” accountability and navigating the struggles of relationships. Of course, there’s the humor of Tyler Perry in there too, but what I liked the most is that Perry – who usually ties his movies up in a nice neat bow at the end – didn’t do this in Temptation. He left you thinking. Thinking about your personal choices. Thinking about making better choices too.

The Cast:

Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Judith

Lance Gross as Brice

Kim Kardashian as Ava

Vanessa L. Williams as Janice

Robbie Jones as Harley

Brandy Norwood as Melinda

Ella Joyce as Sarah

Renée Taylor as Ms. Waco Chapman

I remember the tremendous flap over Mr. Perry casting Kim Kardashian in this movie and though, in my opinion, she just played an enhanced version of herself, the flap was a non-factor. Not an Oscar winner by any stretch, but nothing to be upset over. Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross and Robbie Jones were outstanding in the roles they played, especially Jones who played an extremely controlling sociopath in his part a Harley, but humble and sweet in real life. Thank goodness!

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor opens March 29th and is a must see for young and old, married or single
