A 94-year-old woman shares her lifetime of stories with an attentive audience.

Marla Gibbs is reminding everybody that purpose does not come with an expiration date.

The beloved star of The Jeffersons and 227 recently went viral after sharing a workout photo from the gym. Alongside the picture, Gibbs posted a message that instantly connected with fans across social media.

The legendary Marla Gibbs Goes Viral With This Reminder

“At my age it’s easy to just lay in bed,” she wrote on Instagram. “Then I remember… as long as I’m breathing, I still have a chance to enjoy life. It’s Never Too Late!!!” That message hit home for many people who have watched Gibbs push through challenges both on and off the screen for decades.

The actress also referenced her memoir, It’s Never Too Late, while teasing a possible book signing or discussion event in Los Angeles.

Supporters quickly filled the comments section with encouragement and love. Some called her inspirational. Others joked that her workout post motivated them to get off the couch and start moving themselves. Still, this moment reaches deeper than fitness.

Gibbs recently opened up about painful chapters from her life while promoting the memoir. She shared stories about surviving an emotionally abusive childhood and enduring a difficult marriage that lasted nearly 20 years. Success in Hollywood also came later than many realize. Gibbs did not become a mainstream television star until her 40s.

Health struggles nearly changed everything again in 2006 when she survived both a brain aneurysm and stroke. Even after all of that, Gibbs continues moving forward with faith and determination. “Sharing my story hasn’t been easy, but it is a blessing,” she wrote in another message. “God has a plan and it’s never too late to fulfill that purpose.”

Hollywood Still Feels Her Presence Too

At the 2025 American Black Film Festival Honors, Gibbs received the Hollywood Legacy Award from former 227 co-star Regina King. During her acceptance speech, she had the audience laughing when she reminded producers she is still ready to work.

“Anybody got any projects?” she joked.

That determination helped shape television history. Gibbs famously fought behind the scenes for authentic representation on 227. She pushed for Jackée Harry to join the cast despite network resistance. Harry later became the first Black woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Now at 94, Marla Gibbs is still inspiring people to keep going, keep believing, and keep showing up.
